Hill Track Descents

Riders will experience the adrenalin of cycling down CairnGorm’s winter ski runs. The two descents in total should take approximately 1.5 hours. Our experienced guides will lead the descents ensuring your safety and enjoyment at all times.
Descents will take place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, 3 times per day at 9.40, 11.40 and 14.00. (Other days are available on request).
Prices: Adult £22.50, Junior £15.00, Senior/Student £22.50.
Ridge to River Descent
This all-encompassing ride starts from the Ptarmigan Top Station at 14.00 daily, and ends at Aviemore Steam Railway car park approximately 3.5 hours later. Our experienced guides take cyclists down the sub-arctic terrain which make up CairnGorm’s ski runs during the winter time, on down the old Ski Road which was built in 1959, and through spectacular moorland, sparkling burns and forest trails, around the beautiful Loch Morlich and further down on the Old Logging Way to Aviemore. Participants will enjoy the mix of moments of pure adrenalin and calm relaxation.
Participants should leave their cars at the Steam Railway car park, cross over the railway line to the front of Aviemore train station and take the 31 public bus up to CairnGorm in plenty of time for the 14.00 start time. (See below for bus times and prices).
Prices: Adult £35.00, Junior £20.00, Senior/Student £35.00.
The price for both the Hill Track Descents and the Ridge to River Descent includes the following:
An experienced guide to ensure your safety and enjoyment at all times
Use of the funicular railway
Hire of our top quality Rockhopper bikes, helmet, shinpads and glasses.
Participants should bring their own long fingered gloves (available to purchase in the Mountain shop), wear a long sleeve top, long trousers and good walking boots or trainers. You should also bring waterproofs and midge repellent (this is Scotland!!) and a camera for the great shots that you will get during the descents.
Although we do not expect everyone to be experienced downhill bikers there are a few fundamental skills that are required for these 2 descents. Therefore we would ask that participants should;

Be able to mount a kerb without putting a foot down
Be able to comfortably roll a bike over small drops of 10-15cm high
Be able to tackle uneven and sometimes loose surfaces
Be comfortable riding steep and variable terrain
Participants must be aged 12 years and over and must be at least 1.5 metres high.
Participants should check in at the Activities Centre located in the Base Station in plenty of time for their chosen descent. The bike store, collection point, workshop and changing area will be located in Ski Hire which can be found on Level 3 in the main building.
