Mountain Railway Price List
The funicular, or mountain railway transports visitors to the Ptarmigan Top Station, nestled just below the summit of Cairn Gorm. The Top Station offers spectacular views from the weather watching terrace, and is home to the Shop at the Top, the panoramic Ptarmigan Restaurant and the Mountain Exhibition.
The train is open daily (with the exception of Christmas Day). Opening times do vary depending on the time of year. In the winter months when there is skiing the train opens at 9am (weather permitting). From May through until the end of October the first train up is at 10.20am and the last train to the top is at 4.00pm. The journey outwith the skiing season takes approximately 8 minutes from the Base Station to the top.
The Cairngorms are Britain's largest nature reserve and as such are protected under both UK and EU law. In order to help protect this mountain landscape a Visitor Management Plan is in place and we ask visitors to help us by observing these arrangements when they visit the mountain.

Otherwise there is no access onto the mountain outwith the skiing season for those who take the train to the top. Visitors must remain within the building or weather watching terrace.
