Walks & Trails

From the ‘Walk @ the Top’ to the ‘Train up, Guided Walk Down’, walking at CairnGorm Mountain is one of the most amazing experiences you can enjoy on any holiday in the UK. High mountain trails for the experienced, lower level way marked trails the whole family can enjoy and also a trail suitable for wheelchair and buggy access. It’s all here in the Cairngorms National Park.

The holiday destination at Aviemore, deep in the Highlands of Scotland, is a true winter sports haven. Particularly popular are snowboarding and skiing with the snow sports typically taking place between December and April every year depending on snowfall and daylight. There are other winter sports activities offered too, including cross country skiing, ski mountaineering, sledging and there is special tuition available for disabled skiers.

Climbing can be enjoyed at the Northern Corries although be aware that weather conditions can vary widely and that you should watch out for avalanche reports. There are also many walking activities to be enjoyed, including the self-guided walks and the chance to walk up the mountain and take the mountain railway back down.

The Funicular railway itself is another highlight throughout the year and a great way of exploring all the Cairn Gorm Mountain has to offer without breaking a sweat. While at the top you could go mountain shopping at the Shop at the Top where you can pick up a host of unique gifts; or settle in at the Ptarmigan Restaurant with its spectacular views and varied menus.

In fact you don’t even have to scale the mountain itself to have fun in the Cairngorms National Park. Close to the car park you can wander into the mountain garden and discover the wildflowers and varied plant species; check out the exhibitions from local photographers and artists; view the incredible camera obscura; or visit the ranger service which has information on where to walk and what wildlife you may be able to see along the way.

The Cairn Gorm Mountain has now become the premier destination for winter activities in Scotland so if you’re looking for a break away that’s full of adventure make sure you stop here first.
