There were many conditions set out by the planning authorities prior to the construction of the Funicular Railway in 2001. These conditions form the legal agreement and basis that we as the Funicular operator must follow to protect the integrity of land bordering the ski area, which is designated under the European Habitats and Birds Directives.
These conditions are not solely governed by CairnGorm Mountain as any changes to the original legal agreement must be approved by The Highland Council, Scottish Natural Heritage, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and the Cairngorms National Park Authority. As operators we recognize the demand for access onto the mountain and over the years we have been working to increase the level of access in a controlled manner. The guided activities that we are now able to provide for our visitors are an example of the progress CairnGorm Mountain has made in addressing this.
